All In The Family

My mother’s legacy had a significant impact on me and my two daughters Ciara and Teagan. Fortunately, my daughters were graced by her presence long enough to have her give them their first lessons in visual arts and influenced their choices to pursue photography and fashion design respectfully.

My eldest daughter Ciara is also my website designer and photographer of my artworks. She is a street photographer who lives in Vancouver, British Columbia. Originally, a student of physical and cultural geography at Memorial University of Newfoundland, it was an eight-month solo trip through Europe that led Ciara to rediscover her childhood passion for art. She returned to Canada and enrolled in the Vancouver Institute of Media Arts (VanArts) where she found a unique talent for street and fine art photography.

Graduating with accolades in September 2020, Ciara is working full-time at a framing shop, while co-creating initiatives such as ‘1x2art’ a street photography partnership and concept created with Justin Boudreau . Their current project is the distribution of free, framed, street photographs across Vancouver; believing art should be accessible to everyone; and, to give thanks to the people that make their art possible. You can view Ciara’s exceptional street photography or inquire after her website design services by contacting her through her website Ciara Kilpatrick Photography.

Teagan is the child who used to pull out everything from the recycling bucket to make little miniature worlds and spaceships, who crayoned pictures on the walls beside her bed, and painted the underside of her desk with flowers. So, it was perhaps not a surprise that she went on to study visual arts at Canterbury High School in Ottawa and was accepted into the Fine Arts program at University of British Columbia’s (UBC) Okanagan campus in Kelowna. Looking for a new challenge and a way to advance her career, she recently transferred to the Vancouver College of Art Design and is now studying fashion design. Talented in drawing, painting, miniatures and textile art, Teagan is already receiving commissions. Her unique pieces, including her engaging textile fabric book ‘Memories and Nostalgia’ may be seen at Teagan Arnott (@sticker.fairy)

So, yes, art is in our family and I feel so blessed to be able to purse a Fine Arts Diploma at the Ottawa School of Art (OSA) and share my current journey as an emerging artist with you.

Is creativity in your family? How has that inspired you or influenced your creative pursuits? Reach out and let me know!
